Where did it start?
I’ve always been obsessed with learning and "getting better". As far as I remember, I have always been interested in psychology, philosophy, and the mind. I was (and still am) reading countless self-help books, playing brain-training games every day, solving logic puzzles... I was often dedicated and excited, but I was hardly applying what I learned in my own life.
I was working as a PhD and later as a post-doc in fields that never stop moving - AI and medicine. I gave birth to my child while living with MS, and I found myself writing my PhD just three months postpartum. I was overworked, stressed, and sometimes too tired to think.
I had years of training in neuroscience and cognitive science, and I thought I should be able to find some "secret weapon" to feel better. I wanted a quick fix, but the reality was simpler and harder: there isn't one.
I think I finally internalised what I already knew theoretically, that cognitive health isn't just a game you play for twenty minutes a day. It’s embedded in the way you move your body, what you eat, and how you navigate your daily obligations when everything feels chaotic.
Shugyo Labs is about those small, deliberate steps.
It’s a practice that incorporates our minds, our physical bodies, and our emotions. The hardest part for me was learning to stay still and deal with my own mind, but I believe that friction is exactly what gives us results. The goal isn't just to become a memory champion; it’s to believe in ourselves, to live by our values, and to make life a little less complicated and a lot more fun.
